Myofunctional Therapy
Dr. Catherine Sherry graduated from OU College of Dentistry and is a lifetime member of ADA, ODA and IAO. She is also a Senior Instructor for the International Association for Orthodontics and has practiced interceptive orthodontics in conjunction with Myofunctional Therapy for over 30 years. She was a preceptor for OUCOD on the Mobile Smiles Van with senior dental students.
She currently lectures to dentists, hygienists, staff and parents across the US, Canada and Europe.
Dr Sherry formed the Oklahoma Airway Study Club (OASIS) in 2019, which encourages many different specialties to network and share knowledge and expertise.
Dr. Sherry’s goal is to raise awareness of the epidemic of mouth breathing and sleep disordered breathing in children and adults. This goal lead to the opening of MyO2 Myofunctional Dentistry in February 2023 in Oklahoma City.
Children’s health is affected by ear infections, poor quality sleep, daytime drowsiness, lower IQ, eczema, irritability, and ADHD. Dysfunctional breathing can lead to an imbalance in proper growth and development of the face, poor posture and bed wetting. It affects their overall general health and quality of life.
Hygienists have the advantage of observing the signs and symptoms of compromised airway during routine treatment. Understanding the causes and potential treatment options is essential. Many hygienists pursue further training in Myofunctional Therapy.
