Cyndy’s Legacy
Cyndy was a proud graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s first dental hygiene class in 1973. She dedicated 46 years to clinical dental hygiene and maintained continuous membership in the Oklahoma Dental Hygienists’ Association (OKDHA) throughout her career.
Over the years, Cyndy served in numerous leadership roles within OKDHA, including Annual Session Chair, President, Delegate, Legislative Chair, and Treasurer. She also served for many years as the dental hygiene member on the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry, where she worked tirelessly to advocate for the dental hygiene profession.
Cyndy played a key role in advancing legislation that shaped the future of dental hygiene in Oklahoma. Her efforts included supporting bills related to CPR certification requirements, expanded procedures such as the administration of nitrous oxide and local anesthesia, and securing the profession’s scope of practice in state statute — a vital protection for dental hygienists.
Cyndy’s passion and dedication to OKDHA and the dental hygiene profession were unmatched. She passed away in September 2019 from a rare form of leukemia that took her far too soon.
In her honor, OKDHA awards annual scholarships to dental hygiene students. Funds are raised with each registration with March Madness and Annual Session events and donations can also be made directly through the OKDHA website.
